PinapBerry is one of the first strains that we created as part of a larger breeding project we’ve had underway for over a year now. We’ve been working behind the scenes on selectively breeding for specific aroma profiles that are each tied to unique groupings of terpenes and volatile sulphur compounds. This strain was developed using the same methods as our Orange Portal strain. The eventual end game here is to have a whole line of strains that each reliably produce flower that smells like a specific fruit. We’ve been able to accomplish that with Orange Portal, since there is one terpene-Valencene- that’s responsible for that distinct orange zest smell.

Nailing down the specific combination of terpenes that successfully mimics the smell of other fruits is, unfortunately, not quite as cut and dry.

PinapBerry is the first iteration of what will eventually be a pineapple-specific strain. This F1, we feel, is a very solid starting point much the same way that Slapple was a successful starting point for our sour/green apple specific strain.

But, just because we’re focusing on specific terpene profiles, that doesn’t mean we’re not also making efforts to diversify our strain lineup in other ways. Another heavy part of our selection criteria for PinapBerry has been color. We’re not setting out to develop a deep purple strain here but we are only selecting individuals that produce purple, pink and red hues. Selecting for color is a departure from our normal procedures, as it severely limits the number of plants that fit within the already strict selection criteria for any given strain. All that aside, we have seen some excellent results in the color department with PinapBerry. It expresses absolutely beautiful almost indigo colors on both the fan leaves and the flower, drawing from a specific phenotype of the Supreme Runtz that we’ve been working with specifically as a parent strain for this F1. There’s still a lot of work to be done, but we’re happy with where we’ve landed on this one.

Getting back to terpenes, you can expect some punchy pineapple notes right up front, starting at the very beginning of flower. Moving into later flower, the pineapple notes definitely persist, but there’s also very distinct raspberry and some blueberry notes that come through pretty consistently. There’s an underpinning of sharp lime, pine and haze as the plant moves into the harvest window.

Yields are typical for our strains. If the plant is given what it needs, you’ll have no problem exceeding a pound here. For most growers though, you’re more realistically, looking at around 10 to 12 ounces dry.

Effect profile definitely leans more toward the Supreme Runtz side of the lineage, with most people reporting balanced hybrid indica effects. Think relaxing but not sedating. This likely won’t be an ideal bedtime strain, if that’s what you’re looking for, but its also not what I’d call a greatĀ  first-thing-in-the-morning effect profile.

Interestingly, multiple testers have reported that it has been extremely effective for muscle aches and lower back pain. We’re interested to see how many of you report the same pain relief, as more people have a chance to try this strain.
